Ecstasy

By Kaitlyn Dada

All night I lay dreaming

wading in the wonder

trying to figure out how

to pronounce ecstasy

in my life and perhaps

never have I had an

occasion to use though

perhaps from this distance

my Father’s promise to

never leave my father’s

corny jokes my mother’s

hospitality my

idiosyncrasies

each accidentally

speak to what I am in

my anxiety the

things I cannot express

I wish I could whisper

I see us on a street

perhaps a toxic scene

neutralized somehow by

the sight of you eating

on break and the not-quite-

too-tired phone calls after

long days silence so solemn

the only sound in the

moment before one or

both of us falls is the

little ring as over

time and space a crazy

hot, crazy guy calls and

leaves my heart twisting

like a miracle toy
